Lung cancer is one of the most common types of cancers in the world. There are three main types of lung cancer, non-small cell lung cancer, small cell lung cancer, and lung carcinoid tumor. Just like any other cancer, lung cancer is dangerous, and a life threatening problem. Many studies and researches have been presented to find a cure, but an exact cure has yet to be found. There are however multiple causes, ways to diagnose, and treatments for lung cancer. When you think of lung cancer, you think of smoking, it is the most common cause of cancer but there are many other causes that people don’t think about. The different symptoms someone will experience depend on the stage of the cancer, and the type of lung cancer. There are many symptoms that le ad people to believe they may have lung cancer. Unfortunately, there are rarely any early symptoms, if any. Some early symptoms you might see in a cancer patient are a cough, shortness of breath, or fatigue. Some of the most common symptoms that are noticeable later are; a cough that won’t go away, or continually gets worse, chest pain, coughing up blood, shortness of breath, repeated problems with pneumonia or bronchitis, swelling of the neck or face, and/or weight loss. There are many other symptoms but these are the most common. Some symptoms may be related to other diseases, so it’s always best to find out for sure before proceeding to the next step. To treat a cancer patient the doctor needs to know the type of cancer, the stage, and how advanced the cancer is. The four most commonly used treatments are surgery, radiation, chemotherapy, or targeted therapy. Surgery is an option used for early stages of cancer; this procedure is usually just where all cancerous tis sue is removed from the lung. The second type of treatment is radiation, which are high energy rays or particles used to kill cancer cells. This treatment can be used at any stage, and is also effective after surgery to kill any cancer cells that may remain.
